I had not seen this till this morning receiving the link in an email from an old friend. My ignorance of the levels of cowardice, opportunism, is, as I see it, one of the benefits of living in the hinterland; I was only dimly aware of the levels of which Norman Finkelstein speaks. As usual – Finkelstein’s are “just right” remarks for current, defining moment – the Gaza Genocide.
See similar trends here, the caveat being we’re flooded with a new generation of sincere radicals, overwhelmingly young folk who give back some of the hope lost by the cowards. I have spoken to Nancy about how “at our age” what is more important than our analysis is our example. And it is that which gives hope to the younger generations. Finkelstein … fierce, fine Finkelstein.

Finkelstein is right that careerism trumps morality for most now. Last year, Judge Higginson of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, who studied the Holocaust, in the 13th annual Stevens lecture at the CU law school, warned law students: “My conclusion is that both professions collapsed because lawyers and doctors and judges chose to affiliate [with the Nazis] out of ambition and that choice led to a World War to the Holocaust and ultimately to Nuremberg on charges of crimes against humanity.”
