Democratic “Reputation Washing” … It’s enough to make a person nauseous

Max Blumenthal on Gaza, U.S. Politics, Media Hypocrisy, and Shifting Public Opinion

The same members of the Democratic Party elite who have protected Israeli war crimes – not only since October 7, 2023 – but for decades, who have attacked anti-war protesters as “anti-Semitic,” “ignorant,” or my favorite “Hamas supporters” have together and almost in a bizarre unison now come out of the woodwork shedding crocodile tears for Palestinians in Gaza experiencing starvation, their children being blown to bits by IDF military personnel who are killing kids “for fun”.

Now they seem to suddenly care about the Palestinians in Gaza? Is their support genuine, “from the heart” or is what we are seeing once again, as has happened repeatedly to mainstream Dems who claim “humanitarian concern” after the fact in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, little more than what Max Blumenthal refers to as “reputation washing”.

The only answer that these Democratics have been able to give to explain their support for Israeli genocide in Gaza, for the continued arming, financing and providing political cover for the butchers of Tel Aviv are “Israel has a right to defend itself” (but the Palestinians don’t) and of course, their unending mantra – Hamas is the cause of all this vicious, inhumane Israeli killing spree. Classic Zionist logic where the perpetrators – that is to say the oppressors, the racists, the genociders in Tel Aviv and Washington – try to play the victim while they are slaughtering Palestinians.

And now these political whores, national disgraces are feigning concern for starving Palestinians.

And they have come out in chorus, almost to the day. So let’s take a look at what they are saying – and what they still are not saying.

No, let’s start with what they are not saying. They are not naming the genociders – the Israeli government nor are they saying a word about cutting military aid to Israel, ie, the things that might make a difference. Nor did any of these national Democratic leaders make any statements critical of Israel’s Gaza genocide – nor the Biden Administration’s active support for these horrors – when Joe Biden “Genocide Joe” was president while the world sees Israel killing people as they go to receive food.

Now that Donald Trump is in the White House, it appears more feasible, convenient even to do so?

Let’s start with Hillary Clinton ,  – referred to (correctly) as “the Queen of all war mongers” – who has opposed and denounced all calls for Gaza ceasefires and called all protesters “ignoramuses”. In a Twitter “tweet” Ms. Clinton comments – as if she cares at all that “aid organizations in Gaza are at risk of starvation while trucks full of food sit waiting across the border. The full flow of humanitarian assistance must be restored immediately.

Then her partner in international crime, Barack Obama chimes in with an even more insipid statement in which he shows more concern for Israeli hostages held in Gaza with no mention of the genocide which continues: “while a lasting resolution to the crisis in Gaza must involve the return of all hostages and a cessation of all military operations, these articles underscore the immediate need for action to be taken to prevent the travesty of innocent people dying of starvation”

Cory Booker has stated that the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation “is not working”; Hakeen Jeffries has joined in this hypocritical chorus as has Colorado’s U.S. Senator Michael Bennet whose terse statement hardly suggests any fundamental change in his ongoing support for Israeli genocide. In a “tweet” Bennet commented “The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is abhorrent and worsening daily. People are starving and dying, especially children. President Trump must demand that Israel enable a large-scale expansion of assistance throughout Gaza immediately.” Likewise, Senator Amy Klobuchar gave a seven-minute speech on the Senate floor defending her votes to increase aid to Gaza as has the Jewish Democratic Coalition. Joining in also is AIPAC’s very own Leslie Bell from St. Louis who has criticized Israel for blocking aid to the Gaza Strip. This is the same Wesley Bell who, with $12 million of AIPAC money, was able to defeat “the troublesome” Corey Bush. Two weeks prior to shedding these crocodile tears for starving Palestinians in Gaza, Cory Booker and Amy Klobuchar posed for a photo with Netanyahu.

Here in Colorado one sees a similar trend as certain long-term liberal Zionist elements, long faithful defenders of Israel regardless of its history of ethnic cleansing and occupation, are growing increasingly uneasy with how starving 2.1 million Palestinians in Gaza’s open air concentration camp corresponds to what they refer to as “Jewish values”.

But as Max Blumenthal notes that this is all well and good but “none of them will name the perpetrator and none of them will tell you what is needed to apply serious pressure to force them to stop the killing and stop the starvation. They don’t lay out any measures that are to be taken ”

One development beyond these pablum statements made by Democratic neo-cons. A few days ago, on July 27, 2025, twenty members of the U.S. Senate sent a detailed letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressing “grave concern” and asking for an investigation of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) into “the U.S. role in and financial support for the troubled Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a private group supported by the U.S. security contractors and connected to deadly violence against starving people seeking food in Gaza … We urge you to immediately cease all U.S. funding for GHF and resume support for the existing UN-led aid coordination mechanisms with enhanced oversight to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches civilians in need. ” Those signing this letter include Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Tim Kaine (D-Minnesota), Peter Welch (D-Vermont), Patty Murray (D-Washington), Richard J. Durbin (D-Illinois), Jeffrey A. Merkley (D-Oregon), Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts), Raphael Warnock (D-Georgia), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin), Tammy Duckworth (D-Arizona), Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawaii), Ben Ray Lujan (D-New Mexico), Bernie Sanders (Independent – Vermont), Tina Smith (D-Minnesota), Edward Markey (D-Massachusetts), Martin Heinrich (D-New Mexico), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minnesota), Angela Alsobrooks, (D-Maryland), Jon Ossoff (D-Georgia) and Christopher Murphy (D-Connecticut).

No Republican Senators signed, nor did either of the two Colorado Senators, Michael Bennet or John Hickenlooper.

Don’t get me wrong. The fact that these Democratic Party heavies have been forced by public opinion both here in the United States and, frankly worldwide, to admit that Israel is starving Palestinians with U.S. money, weapons and political support is no small shift. Now they – along with their Republican colleagues – need to push, to take the concrete steps to end this unspeakable slaughter, yes, a genocideto get Israel to withdraw entirely from Gaza, to end the violence and ethnic cleansing Israel has ramped up in the West Bank. Bernie Sanders still shies from the obvious – defining what Israel is doing with those U.S. weapons, financial and political support as genocide, but at least he calls for ending U.S. military aid to Israel. But if I am not mistaken, he is a lone voice in the Senate making that call.
