Palestine Tet – 66 – Iraqi Resistance attacks against U.S. bases

December 28, 2023

The Middle East wars are not limited to the fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Despite the horrific civilian casualties that Israel has caused in Gaza, it has done little to undermine or “destroy” Hamas; indeed reports are now seeping out that Israel is taking something of a beating at Hamas’ hands in Gaza.

Already the field is much wider and although on other fronts the fighting is somewhat more restrained, still it is on-going. All this is putting great pressure both on Israel of course and on the United States.

With the November, 2024 elections now eleven months away and Biden’s popularity plummeting in the polls, Washington prefers to dampen down international conflicts (that it is losing) in Ukraine and the Middle East, at least until after the elections.

An escalation of all out regional war would like cost Biden the election (if it hasn’t already). Israel’s slaughter of Palestinian Gazans with U.S. weapons, satellite intelligence and political support in the United Nations are badly damaging Washington’s reputation as its failure – obvious to the whole world – that it cannot seem to reign in Israel’s murderous campaign and seems unable to control its proxy.

U.S. bases in the Middle East are being targeted by the Iraqi Resistance. As of today, Wednesday, October December 27, the Iraqi resistance has launched 100 attacks against US bases in Iraq and Syria since October 18.

Hezbollah in S. Lebanon is exchanging missile fire with Israeli positions both in those areas of S. Lebanon that Israel still occupies and in N. Israel. 70,000 residents of N. Israel have been evacuated to safer areas further south in Israel.

And now the Houthis have opened yet another front further south both by shooting missiles at Eilat, Israel’s access to the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea and of course targeting Israeli-bond ships in the Red Sea. Commercial traffic to Eilat’s port has been cut to nearly nothing and the Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea has caused dozens of container ship to reroute around the southern tip of Africa.

The introduction of the 20th Century Algerian story has been of significant help in one’s attention being paid to Gaza’s suffering and I’m pleased that you took the instructional effort to do it. Your further instruction on the increasing role to be played by Hezbollah, the Houthis and the Iraqi Resistance, will I think, be of further instructional value. Thanks for all your efforts in this regard Rob. I feel like I’m registered in university!
